Bird Testing Criteria What birds does NDDoH Test? Only certain bird species will be collected for testing this year. This change to the surveillance system will help improve the information about West Nile virus activity in the state because the birds tested this year are those more likely to die from West Nile virus. 2010 Dead Bird Testing The ND Department of Health is working with the public to identify and test dead birds of the Corvidae and Raptor Families. We have limited testing to these families of birds because West Nile virus is most prevalent in these birds. If you find a Corvid in testing condition, please refer to our Handling Instructions and contact the Department of Health regarding West Nile virus testing. IMPORTANT: If the bird is not of this family, please fill out our online dead bird form and dispose of the bird safely.
