Introduction

Through an agreement with the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors and in association with the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT), the North Dakota Department of Health is authorized to administer an approved industrial radiographer safety/certification exam. These examinations must be successfully completed at least every five (5) years to maintain certification.

Requirements

The North Dakota Radiological Health Rules require all persons acting as industrial radiographers in North Dakota to meet certain training and experience requirements as well as successful completion of a certification examination administered by an approved certifying entity as mentioned above.

In addition to an industrial radiographer safety examination, certain other criteria must be met before a North Dakota Industrial Radiographer identification card can be issued to any individual. These additional requirements include:

  1. Documentation of radiographer trainee training requirements in Chapter 33-10-05.1 [10CFR 34.43(a) and (b)] of the North Dakota Radiological Health Rules.
  2. Documentation of radiographer on-the-job training and demonstration of competence requirements in Chapter 33-10-05.1 [10CFR 34.43(c)] of the North Dakota Radiological Health Rules.

Schedule & Applications

The North Dakota Radiation Control Program offers the exam periodically as applications are approved by the ASNT.  Applications, qualification requirements, and examination information is available on the ASNT website www.asnt.org/certification/irrsp/index.htm .
