The North Dakota Cancer Registry is funded by a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Program of Cancer Registries.

Every day in North Dakota, an average of eight people are diagnosed with cancer and three people die from cancer.

Cancer is second only to heart disease as a leading cause of death among the state's residents.

The five most frequent cancers in North Dakota are:
     1. Prostate
     2. Breast
     3. Colorectal
     4. Lung
     5. Bladder

The National Institutes of Health estimates the nation’s overall annual costs for cancer at $107 billion.
