  • Rabies Question

If you think you have been exposed to rabies, it is important that you contact your local healthcare provider. Rabies is a medical urgency, but not an emergency. Your healthcare provider will decide whether you need the rabies vaccination series based on a number of factors including the type of exposure, the animal you were exposed to, laboratory testing information, animal quarantine information and rabies surveillance data for the geographic area where the exposure occurred. Your state or local health department may be consulted on questions regarding possible exposures, however, the decision to start vaccination will be made by your healthcare provider.
