ICD Codes for Cardiovascular Disease
Data on causes of death come from a database of death certificates collected and maintained by the North Dakota Department of Health, Division of Vital Records. The primary cause of death is indicated by an International Classification of Diseases (ICD) code. The ICD is designed to promote international comparability in the collection, processing, classification and presentation of mortality statistics.
The following are the ICD codes used for classification of “cardiovascular disease,” “diseases of the heart” (also referred to as “heart disease”), “coronary heart disease,” and “stroke.”
