Welcome to the Division of Vital Records

The Division of Vital Records provides registration and certification of the vital events that occur in North Dakota.  These events include births, deaths, fetal deaths, marriages and divorces.  We also provide statistical information on a wide range of categories relating to these events.

It is our goal to provide our customers with the most complete vital statistics information, in a prompt and reliable manner.  If you have any questions or suggestions on how we can make our process more efficient, please email us at vitalrec@nd.gov.

Vital Records Fees increase July 1, 2019:   As approved during the last legislative session, the Division of Vital Records will raise the fees for certified copies of birth, death and fetal death records effective July 1, 2019. The table below shows the old and new fee structures:

Any requests for copies or other services already received or mailed and received by June 28th will be processed using the existing fee structure.  Online web requests ordered by our secure web application by June 30th will still be processed using the existing fee structure as well.  Due to the timely need for the implementation of these changes, the Vital Records office will be closed to the public on Friday, June 28, 2019, however online orders will still be accepted.  All new orders received on or after July 1, 2019 will be charged the new fees.

If you have any questions related to these new fees, please email us at vitalrec@nd.gov.
